HYDERABAD, Aug 13: The activists of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) observed token hunger strike in various districts of Sindh on the call of the central committee of the party in protest against government apathy to provide succour and relief to the flood-affected people.
In Hyderabad, the hunger strike was led by the vice chairman of the party, Dr Niaz Kalani.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kalani appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo motu notice of the criminal negligence of the authorities to provide relief to the flood -affected people of Sindh.
He also said that the police should be put in the dock for humiliating unfortunate victims of the natural calamity.
He said that the rulers were only protecting the interests of Punjab and were looting the natural resources of Sindh.
He demanded of the ruling clique of Punjab to provide similar facilities to the flood affected Sindhi people, as were extended to the people of Punjab during natural calamity.
He said, protest by his party would continue till the rehabilitation of the flood and rain-affected people.
NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: The activists of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) observed token hunger strike outside the Moro press club. They were led by district president JSQM, Ashraf Laghari, Akash Memon and Shoukat Solangi.
They condemned the attitude of provincial government towards flood-affected people of Sindh as a result of which affectees including women, children and sick people were living in a miserable condition. They said that these people were even not being provided medicines, tents etc.
They demanded that flood-affected people should be given the same facilities as were provided to the earthquake affectees of Balakot and other areas.
They said that Sindh was contributing more taxes than other provinces but when the time has come to provide relief, the rulers have turned their faces.
NAWABSHAH: JSQM activists staged protest demonstration outside local press club. They carried placards and raised slogans against the government.
Speaking on the occasion, district president of JSQM Anwar Chandio, Mushtaq Parhiar, Qadir Zardari, Dr Shaam and others said that Sindh and Balochistan governments have failed to provide any relief to the flood victims.
They said that there was shortage of food and medicines in the affected areas due to which thousands of people were catching diseases.
They alleged that no proper survey of flood-affected areas was conducted which would have revealed loss of billions. They demanded re-survey of the flood-affected areas and a compensation of Rs500,000 for the people.
MIRPURKHAS: JSQM activists observed token hunger strike and staged demonstration. Led by Najaf Leghari, the protesters carried banners and placards demanding of the government to provide proper relief goods and other facilities to the flood affectees of Sindh and Balochistan. They also blocked main Mirpurkhas-Hyderabad road for some time.
Later, Najaf Leghari, Mustafa Kori, Arjun Kumar, Noor Mohammad Mangrio, Munawar Samoon, Allah Bachayo Leghari, Dilmurad Mangrio, Moti Lal and others observed token hunger strike outside the press club.
Mr Leghari said that rulers launched massive relief drives to provide relief to the affected persons whenever natural disaster hit other provinces, but lamented that in flood condition of Sindh and Balochistan, rulers ignored the flood-affectees who were living under open sky at Mehar, Dadu, Shahdadkot and other areas of Sindh and Balochistan.
