Events to mark independence

LAHORE, Aug 10: A number of sporting events have been planned to take place as part of this year’s Independence Day celebrations. Fifteen clubs and schools from various districts of Lahore have confirmed their participation for the Don Bosco Jashn-i-Azadi Basketball Tournament to be held at Don Bosco High School from Aug 11 to 17.

The teams have been divided into two groups. Group ‘A’ comprises Don Bosco ‘A’ (English Medium), Kasur, Brothers Club, Henry Francis Club, New Age Club, Defence Club Black and Punjab College of Commerce.

Group ‘B’ has Defence Club, Whites, Mian Channu Club, Sheikhupura Eagles, Don Bosco Old Boys, Eagles Club, Lahore, ZU Khan Club, Orlando Kids Club and Don Bosco ‘A’ (Urdu Medium).

The Punjab Cycling Association has also announced a cycle race in connection with Jashn-i-Azadi. The race, from Lahore to Kasur, will take place on Aug 12. The winner receives Rs5,000, while the position holders from second to fifth place will get Rs3,000, Rs2,000, Rs1,000 and Rs700.

The Punjab Swimming Association’s swimming gala will be held at Atchison College on Saturday. Boys in the age categories of Under-8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and an open age group will be competing in the different competitions planned for the day.
