Buildings around fort demolished

SHEIKHUPURA, Aug 10: The district administration demolished dozens of houses and shops around a historic fort here on Friday.

The step has been taken in line with a Supreme Court order to remove encroachments near historic places. The remaining encroachments around the fort will be removed on Saturday (today), a spokesman for the district administration said.

LOOTED: Ten robbers barged into the house of a farmer in Qila Tek Singh village on Friday and fled with cash, ornaments and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees.

Robbers entered the house of Muhammad Khan Bhatti in Kassoke police precincts and held him and his family hostage.

They locked the family in a room and fled with Rs90,000, 27 tola gold ornaments and other valuables. They also beat Bhatti and his family members when they tried to resist.
