RAWALPINDI, Aug 8: In light of the inspection and vigilance cell’s report, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Ahmad Nasim took disciplinary action against 1,254 police officials during the last seven months.

The disciplinary action included registration of cases, suspension of police officials and issuance of warning letters.

This was disclosed at a meeting chaired by the IGP to review the performance of inspection and vigilance teams, a spokesman for the police said on Tuesday.

The Inspection and Vigilance Cell had been set up for the accountability of police officials, and to improve image of the department in the province.

The team carried out surprise visits to 135 police stations in far-flung areas, investigations centres and patrolling posts and pointed out various violations being committed by the police officials.

The spokesman said the officials against whom action was taken included deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) and inspectors (SHOs).

Additional Inspector General of Police Syed Azhar Hassan Nadim, Additional IGP (Investigation) Salahuddin Niazi, Additional IG (Patrolling Posts) Javed Noor, DIG Headquarters Rai Altaf Hussain, DIG Inspection and Vigilance Cell Zafar Iqbal Qureshi and members of inspection teams were also present in the meeting.
