Outages enrage textile mills

FAISALABAD, Aug 8: Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) chairman Zahid Aslam has said that unscheduled loadshedding and frequent power fluctuations are immensely hampering the business activities.

Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, the PTEA chairman said that unplanned power suspension was not only affecting the industrial productivity but also export orders commitment.

He said that power outages were leaving a negative impact on the national economy depriving the country of the much-needed foreign exchange.

Manufacturing of textile products, he said, encompassed long period of time but the spontaneous loadshedding rendered the businessmen in a predicament.

Mr Aslam said the process of bed sheets manufacturing required 6 to 12 hours as the printing design had to undergo different colour solutions and designs. If this process was interrupted by the power suspension, not only solutions of colours and chemicals but cloth on machines were also wasted, causing heavy losses to manufacturers. He urged upon the Fesco authorities to minimize the loadshedding duration so that industrial manufacturing activity could not be disrupted.
