Pakistan may get two wild-cards

ISLAMABAD, Aug 7: Pakistan is strongly tipped to gain one wild-card entry each in athletics and swimming for next year's Olympic Games at Beijing, it was learnt on Tuesday.

The Pakistan contingent for Beijing in 2008 is likely to comprise 50 members including players and officials and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is certain to give Pakistan one wild-card entry each in athletics and swimming.

The main event for Pakistan in the Beijing Olympics 2008 will, as usual, men's field hockey. Besides, Pakistan is also likely to compete in boxing, rifle shooting and one of the martial arts events.

The Associate Secretary of the Pakistan Olympic Association, Col. Mohammad Yahya, is in Beijing these days to attend a meeting of chef d' missions of the participating contingents from nearly 200 countries.

The meeting is designed to discuss various aspects relating to the organising of the first-ever Olympiad in a Chinese city.—APP
