NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Aug 7: A court official raided the Anti-Car Lifting Cell of police on Tuesday and freed two men illegally confined there for several days. The district and sessions judge, Rasheed Ahmed Soomro, had appointed Mohammad Suleman Solangi as raid commissioner on the application of Abdul Rauf Leghari, resident of Noor Mohammad Leghari village.

He raided the Anti-Car Lifting Cell near the TPO Investigation Office and recovered Ghulam Mustafa and Haroon Leghari, confined illegally since several days without entry in the register.

Meanwhile, relatives of the detenues staged demonstration outside the press club and complained that police were demanding Rs20,000 for the release of illegally confined persons.

They appealed to higher authorities to provide protection and take action against concerned police officers.

Conference: A conference of tube-well operators, growers and activists opposed the closure of the irrigation department’s Scarp division.

It was arranged by Scarp Trade Union and attended by growers, lawyers, political leaders, tube-well operators and other staff of Scarp.

Speakers at the conference said the closure of tube-well of Scarp division will make 800 employees jobless.
