HYDERABAD, Aug 7: Hyderabad Sessions Judge Zafar Ahmed Sherwani, under orders of Sindh High Court, began inquiry on Tuesday into the charges of wrongful detention of two men who had been picked up by police on suspicion of their involvement in Mannu Bheel case.

The then TPO of Sanghar, Sujan Singh, SHO of police station Sinjhoro, Mehran Khaskheli, and SHO of Kunri police station, Mohammad Waris, submitted their affidavits to the court, which adjourned the hearing till Aug 15.

The judge is scheduled to complete the inquiry within four weeks and submit the report to SHC. Justice Ameer Hani Muslim of the Hyderabad circuit bench of the Sindh High Court had on June 21 ordered inquiry while hearing a constitutional petition filed by Beerbal and Pyaro. The two are relatives of detainees, Ibrahim Machhi and Jumo Bheel who were picked up by police for interrogation regarding Mannu Bheel's case and later challaned.

Affidavits of Jumo Bheel and Ibrahim Machhi were also filed by their counsel in Sindh High Court when Justice Muslim ordered judicial inquiry.

According to affidavit of Jumo, son of petitioner Beerbal, the respondents arrested him and a number of other men on Feb 8 and kept him at an unknown place.

The same day a police team arrested Ibrahim Machhi, Arjun Bheel, Allah Bux Mari, Munawar Ali Chandi, Motki Kolhi and eight other people in spite of their claims that they had nothing to do with kidnapping of Mannu Bheel's family members.

In the main petition, Beerbal said that a special team, formed under the orders of apex court, consisting of respondent policemen entered his village and arrested many persons on Feb 8 and kept them at an unknown place.

He said that he came to know that his son, Jumo and Ibrahim, were tortured and forced to make statements against Abdul Rehman Mari, who was facing trial in a case of abduction of Mannu Bheel's family members.

He said that he met his father in court when supplementary challan was submitted to additional sessions judge-I against Jumo Bheel along with Ibrahim Machhi.

On Tuesday the then TPO, Sujan Singh, in his affidavit denied allegations levelled against him by the petitioners and said that he did not arrest the accused. It was a concocted story, he added. The court adjourned the hearing to Aug 15.
