GUJRANWALA, Aug 5: PML-N acting president Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, who was released from the Kot Lakhpat Jail, Lahore on Saturday, was warmly welcomed when he passed through Gujranwala on his way to Islamabad on Sunday.

He addressed party workers who had gathered in front of the old city railway station on the GT road.

Before leaving Lahore, the PML-N leader said that the masses would hold accountable any party which would deviate from the Charter of Democracy (CoD) which had been accepted by all opposition parties.

“The CoD was a commitment the opposition parties had made with the nation. Anyone backing out of it will lose moral position in the eyes of people,” he told a press conference.

Replying to a question, he said at a time when even nationalist parties from smaller provinces were demanding restoration of the Constitution on Oct 12, 1999, Benazir Bhuto's attitude was disappointing democrats.

He claimed that the opposition was getting entangled in Gen Musharraf's net as fair polls under him were impossible.

About the ARD, the PML-N leader said that the alliance was based on a commitment and if there was no such commitment the alliance itself would become useless.
