ISLAMABAD, Aug 5: The government on Sunday released Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) MNA from Karak, Shah Abdul Aziz, who was arrested three weeks ago under 16 MPO for allegedly supporting Lal Masjid clerics.
Mr Aziz was released from Adiyala Jail after the local administration withdrew his detention orders, said deputy commissioner of Islamabad, Chaudhry Muhammad Ali.
Mr Aziz had played an active role in negotiations with late Abdul Rashid Ghazi during prelude to final operation against the Lal Masjid administration in Islamabad on July 10.
Later, the MNA had accompanied the sisters of Maulana Abdul Aziz and Abdul Rashid Ghazi to the Supreme Court to have a meeting with the acting chief justice requesting him to stop the government from burying late Ghazi at his ancestral village.
Just before his arrest, Mr Aziz had accused the government of hiding facts about Lal Masjid and claimed that he was put behind bars after the government learnt of his intention to set up a special cell to help the parents and relatives of the students who were killed and went missing.
