Community trusts to be formed

ISLAMABAD, March 10: The government has decided to set up community development trusts to carry out projects for the welfare of people within the framework of the local government, National Reconstruction Bureau Chairman Tanvir Hussain Naqvi said on Sunday.

Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the six-day training capacity workshop held by the NRB, Naqvi said the trusts would be established with funding by the government and the donors for the welfare of people at the grassroots.

The trust would make small grants to the citizens’ community boards to help them undertake small enterprises at the local level for providing basic facilities, he said.

He said the government would take the initiative to re-orientate NGOs and utilise their social technologies for different roles.

The NRB is preparing training videos for the local government representatives and officials, he added. Commenting on the impression that the devolution plan revolves around the Nazims and Naib Nazims, he said the actual grassroots were the community.
