PESHAWAR, Aug 4: NWFP Information Secretary Mohammad Afzal Khan said on Saturday the provincial government was keen to clear the outstanding advertisement liabilities of various newspapers. He said the government had made a record payment of more than Rs32.10 million during the last two months. Chairing a meeting to evaluate the monthly performance of the information department, the secretary said a sum of about Rs10 million would be paid to the newspapers within a week.

The officers in-charge gave a detailed resume of activities of their concerned sections during the meeting. A number of decisions were also taken to boost the department’s performance.

Afzal Khan said the Finance Department was being approached to release the required amounts to various departments so that all outstanding arrears of the newspapers could be cleared as soon as possible.

He said that besides providing best working conditions, facilities, latest equipment as well as arranging capacity building training courses and workshops for the officers and officials of the Information Department, the computerisation of almost all the sections of the Directorate of Information was also in the offing.

Director Information Faridullah Khan, Assistant Director Establishment Waheedullah, Assistant Director Advertisements Salim Khan, Assistant Director P&B Imran Khan, Assistant Director Transport Firdous Khan, Assistant Director Films Ansarullaah Khilji, Section Officer General Kaleemullah Khan and the superintendents of the Advertisements, Establishment and Accounts attended the meeting.—APP
