SWABI, March 10: Swabi Local Government has imposed tax on marriage registration, and fine on registering birth and death after one month, councillors here on Sunday.

They said the tax power had been exercised under section 192(2) and 195(2) of the Local Government Ordinance 2000. The registration of birth and death within a month would be free, but after one month each family concerned would be fined Rs50 per case, the councillors said.

Failure to register birth and death was a crime under section 145(4) of the Local Government Ordinance 2000, they added.

About the tax on marriage registration, the councillors said it was of different categories.

An order has also been issued in this regard which says if a marriage takes place without inviting any guests, Rs50 would be charged on its registration, but if the residents of nearby Mohallas are invited, then Rs100 would be received.

Similarly, if people of the area union council (UC) are invited, the tax would be raised to Rs200 and on inviting the inhabitants of other UCs and areas Rs500 would be charged as the tax.

The tax has been imposed from Jan 7, 2002, and violators would be fined, they said.

The district government has also imposed ban on the practice of unauthorized midwives (Dais), which is the major cause of a number of deaths during deliveries, they said.

Those who were found violating this decision would be would be dealt with according to the law, the councillors warned.

The district government has also imposed ban on the opening of brick kilns in the residential areas.

Butchers too have been advised to slaughter animals at the slaughter houses, otherwise they would be fined on violation.
