ISLAMABAD, Aug 2: Activists of mainstream and smaller political parties have vowed to jointly continue with the struggle against military dictatorship and imperialism, and agreed that any compromise on basic principles by the leadership of any party would not be tolerated.

Local leaders and workers of the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Awami National Party (ANP), Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI), Communist Mazdoor Kissan Party (CMKP), National Workers Party (NWP), Communist Party of Pakistan (CPP), Inqulabi Jamhoori Workers Committee and People’s Rights Movement (PRM) made this commitment at a round-table conference organised by the PRM at the Rawalpindi Press Club on Thursday.

The conference agreed to work towards a ‘Charter of Democracy’ between political workers, who actually struggle at the grass-roots level for political and social change.

Speaking on the occasion, Aasim Sajjad of the PRM said events of the past few months had revived political culture in the country, but over the past few weeks state terrorism and the government’s response had once again created an environment of fear.

He said it was crucial that political workers committed to the end of military dictatorship and imperialist intervention in Pakistan’s sovereign affairs collated their efforts to ensure that the momentum created by the chief justice’s movement was not lost.
