KARACHI, Aug 2: Four people, including three policemen, were shot dead on Wednesday in separate acts of violence in parts of the city, police said. A head constable was killed and another wounded when the attackers opened fire on them in the small hours of the morning in Korangi.

Police said head-constables Nazeer Leghari and Qasim Lashari were patrolling the vicinity on their motorcycle when they were fired upon by unknown attackers, also riding a motorbike.

They said the two were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where HC Leghari died from the bullet wounds. The victim, married with seven children, hailed from Shahdadkot.

Hospital sources said HC Lashari was in a stable condition.

A police constable was killed by robbers in Site.

Police said four bandits looted Rs3.34 million from an Allied Bank branch after holding the bank guard and staff hostage at gunpoint.

They said the bandits snatched the repeater gun from security guard Aftab and opened fire on constable Ghulam Murtaza while fleeing the scene. The culprits also took away the official rifle of the constable hailing from Khushab.

The police registered a case against unknown robbers on the complaint of bank manager Aslam Iqbal.

An assistant sub-inspector was shot dead at the Mewa Shah graveyard, where he had gone in a funeral procession.

The police said ASI Haji Ishtiaq was believed to have been shot dead by a participant of the funeral procession. He was posted at the Kharadar police station. Pak Colony police registered a case against unknown culprits.

A labourer was killed and two others were wounded in Naik Mohammed Goth in the Sharafi Goth police area at 7am.

The victims were taken to the JPMC where the dead man was identified as Peer Mohammed Lashari, hailing from Kandhkot, and the injured as Abdul Sattar.

The injured told the police that he along with other labourers was working at an under-construction building when unknown attackers arrived there, opened fire on them and fled.

The police said the incident appeared to be motivated by personal enmity.
