Published March 11, 2002

KARACHI, March 10: Paying tributes to eminent economist late Dr Ashfaq Hussain Quaderi, speakers at a condolence meeting termed his demise an irreparable loss to the faculty of teaching and research.

Karachi University vice-chancellor Dr Zafar Saeed Saify expressed concern over the legging behind of the arts faculty against science and said had senior teachers’ discourses been paid heed and students encouraged in the field of research, the arts faculty would not be facing a lack of towering personalities.

Prof Manzooruddin Ahmad said Dr Quaderi was not only a good teacher and a researcher but also a better human being.

Prof Manzoor said when he assumed office of vice-chancellor, he was in search of a reliable person for the office of registrar and Dr Quaderi truly justified the responsibility.

Recalling his journalistic services, Prof Zakaria Sajid said his articles appearing in different newspapers and periodicals on economics were full of insight.

Prof Sarwar Rizvi, Prof Sajidain and Dr Fahimuddin also spoke on the occasion. Shahzad Ahmad, the son of late Dr Quaderi, pointed out that his father had set up a school in Thatta where over 700 students were studying at present.
