LAHORE, July 31: The Pakistan People’s Party has shortlisted candidates for most national and provincial assembly seats from Lahore. The candidates were shortlisted at a meeting of the Central PPP Parliamentary Board held in London on Tuesday.

A surprise selection is of former Punjab Governor Khawaja Tariq Rahim for a national assembly seat.

Those shortlisted also include Ali Badr, son of PPP secretary-general Jehangir Badr, for a provincial seat and Umar Misbah, son of former Lahore PPP president Mian Misbahur Rehman.

The candidates shortlisted for the National Assembly seats include Asif Hashmi (NA 118), Zikriya Butt (NA 119), Jehangir Badr (NA 120) , Aurangzeb Burki (NA 121), Umer Misbah (NA 122), Azizur Rehman Chan (NA 123), Aitzaz Ahsan (NA 124), Naveed Chaudhry (NA 125), Umer Iqbal Wahala (NA 126) and Khwaja Tariq Rahim (NA 127).

Those shortlisted for provincial assembly seats include Samiullah Khan (PP 137), Zafar Masood Bhatti (PP 138), Chaudhry Asghar Ali (PP 139), Dr Fakhar (PP 140), Shaid Abbass (PP 141), Jenagir Badr (PP 142), Tahir Siddique (PP 143), Zhid Zulfiqar (PP 144), Haji Ejaz (PP 145), Shaid Imtiaz (PP 146), Tahir Khaliq (PP 147), Jozi Butt (PP 148), Pir Nazim Hussain Sha (PP 149), Asif Nagra (PP 150), Hur Bukhari (PP 151), Ashraf Gill (PP 152), Ali Badr (PP 153), Aslam Gara (PP 154), Qasim Zia (PP 155) and Asif Jehangir (PP 156).

The candidates for NA128 to NA130 and PP157 to PP161 had not been shortlisted till the filing of this report.
