GUJRANWALA, July 30: Five members of a family, including two women, were killed and two others injured in a road accident on GT Road near Sadhoki, 30km from Gujranwala, on Monday.

Seven people of the family were travelling in their car from Lahore to Gujranwala. When they reached Sadhoki, their car collided with a truck, leaving Muhammad Salim, Muhammad Qasim, Salima Bibi, Aneela Bibi and Shah Zaib dead and Hannan and Humma injured.

Motorway police arrived at the accident scene and arrested truck driver Abdul Majid and handed him over to Kamoki Saddar police.

Later, the driver was released when heirs to the deceased family pardoned him, Sadar police said.

LAND RETRIEVED: The revenue department has retrieved 51 kanals state land in Wazirabad.

Sources said accused Mardan Bhati had got transferred the state land in 1994 against his name with the connivance of some revenue officials. When the scam surfaced, the revenue department conducted an inquiry and ordered registration of a case against the land grabber. But this order remained un-implemented for six months.

City district nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha took serious notice of the delay and directed the revenue department to do the needful. The district officer (revenue) reviewed the case and gave an approval for transferring the land worth 10 million rupees in the name of the provincial government.

The Wazirabad police which have arrested the accused are interrogating him to know the name of his collaborators.
