GUJRANWALA, July 27: A man claiming to be a prophet was sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs100,000 by the additional district and sessions judge on Friday.

The prosecutor told district and sessions court judge Salimullah Uppal that Pir Muhammad Sadiq, of Rehmanpur, propagated himself a “chosen” man through his follower Shabbir Ahmed.

People of the area reported the matter to Garjakh police and police arrested Sadiq while Shabbir Ahmed escaped and is still at large.
