MANSEHRA, July 27: Hundreds of people took to the streets here on Friday in protest against the appointment of new prayer leader for Lal Masjid.

The protesters demanded immediate release of Maulana Abdul Aziz who was arrested during a military operation against Lal Masjid’s clerics and its seminaries’ students.

The protesters gathered outside the main mosque on Abbottabad road and marched on the streets to protest against the killing of students during the Lal Masjid operation. They carried banners and placards and chanted slogans against the government.

Addressing the gathering, former senator Syed Hadayatullah Shah, Maulana Saeed Abdullah and others said the government wanted to implement the US agenda in the country, but people would never allow it.

They said the government should immediately withdraw all charges against Maulana Abdul Aziz and other people arrested during the Lal Masjid operation.
