KARACHI, July 27: The Administrative Judge, Anti-Terrorism Court, Karachi, Justice Amir Hani Muslim of the Sindh High Court, on Friday remanded a suspect in police custody till August 2.

Accused Mohammad Tanveer is facing a trial for his alleged involvement in a kidnapping for ransom case. He was produced before the judge by the Anti-Violent Crimes Cell (AVCC).

According to the FIR, Tanveer, along with the absconding co-accused, Khalid, kidnapped Fozia, daughter of Rustam Ali, and her colleague, Mohammad Moosa, in North Nazimabad and also took away their car on July 25, 2007. The accused demanded Rs1 million as ransom for their release. They also snatched Rs10,000, mobile phones and other valuables from their hostages.

When the car was passing through the Numaish roundabout, the hostages started shouting to draw the attention of a police party of the Soldier Bazaar police station close to the car.

The police party intervened and got the kidnap victims freed. Tanveer was arrested but Khalid managed to escape.
