LAYYAH, July 26: The man in charge of a pharmacy at the emergency department of the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital was arrested on Thursday for allegedly selling official stock at a private medical store.

DHQ Hospital MS Dr Muhammad Sadiq caught dispenser Abdul Muqeet when he was selling official stock at Layyah Medical Store, just outside the hospital.

Sadiq said Muqeet was arrested after a check on his movement for more than a week. He said police had seized official stock worth Rs3,633 from the medical store. He said Muqeet was steeling medicines worth Rs3,633 every day.

Muqeet said he was being punished for exposing the corruption of the executive district officer for health in contract employments. Explaining about the official stock seized from the store, Muqeet said, “My duty starts at 8pm and the main medical store of the hospital closes by that time therefore I indented medicines from the store in working hours and kept them at the store outside the hospital.”

The medical store’s owner Muhammad Zaman said all medicines in the official stock were marked ‘Not for sale’ so it was impossible to sell them in the open market. However, police have registered a case against Muqeet and Zaman. — Correspondent
