UPPER DIR, July 26: Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani on Thursday visited the flood-hit areas of Upper Dir district and gave away compensation cheques to the families of the dead and injured.

He announced the reconstruction of infrastructure in the district devastated by the flood.

At least 52 persons, including 22 children and 12 women, were killed and 22 others injured when flash floods hit the Banria village of the district.

The chief minister distributed cheques of Rs100,000 each to the heirs of 46 deceased. Cheques worth Rs50,000 were given to each of the critically injured people and Rs25,000 to each of those who suffered minor injuries.

Besides, Rs25,000 and Rs10,000 were given to each of those whose houses were washed away or partially damaged by flash floods and lightning.

Mr Akram announced Rs10 million for the construction of main Usherai Dara road. He said that a road to the flood-hit Banria village and a girls’ middle school would also be built. He said that Rs300,000 would be given for the reconstruction of mosques.

Addressing people in Nashnamal, the chief minister expressed his grief over the loss of lives and said the area would be developed and the affected people would be provided all help. He said the provincial government was trying its utmost to minimise miseries of the affected people.
