Rain havoc in Vehari

VEHARI, July 24: Heavy rain which lashed the entire district on Tuesday caused the collapse of several houses and left six people injured. Beginning in the afternoon, the rain continued till 8pm. The rain water entered houses in low-lying areas besides submerging a majority of city roads in the absence of storm water drains. The flooding is also accentuated by faulty sewer system which chokes whenever it rains.

The worst-hit areas were 9-11/WB, People’s Colony, Masani Bagh, Danywal, Muslim Town, Luddan, Thingi, Karampur, Jalla Jeem, Tibba Sultanpur, Garah Morr, Chakrala, Pipli Stop, various parts of Burewala and Mailsi tehsils.

Electricity supply remained suspended during the rain while the PTCL phone system was also affected.

There were reports of damage to mud houses from Luddan and Machiwal areas.

Six people were injured in incidence of wall collapse in 9-11/WB locality.

Vehari TMA claimed that its staff were busy draining out water and clearing sewer lines.
