MIRAMSHAH, July 24: Militants intensified their attacks against security forces and government buildings in the troubled North Waziristan tribal region as many checkpoints and offices were blown up on Tuesday, sources said.

Latest reports said that offices of the Directorate of Works and Services, Town Committee and some checkpoints of the Khasaddar Force were destroyed in Miramshah and Datakhel areas of the region. No casualty was reported from these areas.

Cobra helicopters were seen hovering over Miramshah and other parts of the region throughout the day, while contingents of troops were being dispatched from Bannu. The sources said that the number of troops had been increased at the checkpoints.

The sources said that militants blew up the office of the local Town Committee in Datakhel area while the office of the Works and Services Department was bombed and destroyed near the Civil Colony in Miramshah at about 7.30pm on Tuesday.

Witnesses said that militants attacked Serbandkai checkpoint, some 10 kilometres east of Miramshah, on Monday night. The militants also fired rockets on the security forces. But the troops remained unhurt in the attack.

In another incident, security forces fired on a speeding car near Chashma Bridge on the Miramshah-Bannu road. The sources said that stains of blood were seen at the place of the incident.
