GUJRANWALA, July 23: Eleven members of a family, including women and children, drowned in Lower Chenab Canal near Qadirabad, 35km from here, on Monday night. According to reports reaching here, Riasat Bhinder of Mian Sansi locality along with his 13 relatives and neighbours visited Ranmal Sharif shrine by a wagon.

On their return journey, their vehicle fell into the canal near Channi

Muridke area of Alipur Chatta in a bid to avert collision with a donkey cart.

The people of the area started rescue work and managed to save two people.

Meantime, police and irrigation authorities reached the spot and got water discharge into the canal suspended.

According to APP, Riasat Ali, Humaira, Neha (15), Ghazala (niece)

Sultan, Waqar, Chand (nephews), Seeman Bibi, her daughter Bushra and two unknown persons died.

Anwari Begum and her son Asif were rescued.

SI ARRESTED: A sub-inspector was arrested on the order of a judicial magistrate on Monday.

Reports said Munir Masih lodged a kidnap case of his daughter, Farrah Naz, against Shahid Masih with Nosheran Virkan police. SI (investigation) Saadullah recovered the girl and produced her before the court.

Farrah told the court that she had contracted marriage with Shahid Masih and wanted to live with him. The court sent her to Darul Aman till the next hearing, but the SI handed her over to her husband.

At this, the judge Rana Sherafat Ali Nasir ordered the naib court to arrest the SI.
