SIALKOT, July 22: Two teams of federal and Punjab governments have jointly started technical inspection of a Rs200 million project of constructing a bridge over the river Tavi near Bajwat following the collapse of a concrete beam a few days ago.

Sources said that inspection teams would fix the responsibility of wrongdoings on officials of either irrigation or highway departments or both.

Besides finding flaws in the project, they said, the two teams were also checking quality of the material being used in the construction of the bridge.

Requesting anonymity, a federal inspection team official said the project was poorly planned and had some technical flaws as well.

He said that some officials of irrigation and highways departments were involved in the scam of using substandard material in the construction of the 1,300 feet long bridge.

The 100-feet long concrete beam had collapsed immediately after it was placed on the under-construction bridge about a fortnight ago.
