KARACHI, July 22: A man was shot at and wounded in an exchange of fire between two groups in a Pakhtun-dominated locality in PIB Colony here on Sunday evening.

The injured man, identified as Allah Noor, was shifted to hospital.

Police said that the exchange of fire between the two groups started on a petty matter of dumping garbage in front of a house near old Subzi Mandi in Nishtar Basti, in the limits of PIB police station.

Aerial firing to celebrate a wedding was in progress when the quarrel between the two groups started. The participants of the wedding ceremony also took part in the exchange of fire, the police said.

SP Gulshan Noman Siddiqui said police were looking into the matter. He denied the reports of the burning of shops or any other property by miscreants in the locality.

Police reached the spot and picked up people for interrogation. Elders of the locality approached the police, who played the role of mediators to solve the matter.

No arrest has so far been made and firing with intervals continued till late into the night.
