PESHAWAR, July 21: The NWFP government has decided to shift army personnel stationed in educational institutions in the Malakand region to the FC Headquarters, Malakand, and Kabal (Swat).

According to an official handout issued here on Saturday, the decision was taken in the light of a recently-held provincial cabinet meeting and decisions taken at a meeting of the peace committee (Loya Jirga) of the Malakand division.

According to the decision, the troops stationed in the Chakdarra University campus and Matta College, Swat, would be moved to the FC Headquarters and Kabal.

The provincial government at a cabinet meeting held on July 9 to review the law and order situation and the Malakand Loya Jirga held on July 16 had, in principle, agreed not to allow army’s deployment in educational or health institutions’ premises, besides barring it from launching any operation without the consent of the provincial government.

NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani had approached the army high-ups to shift the army from educational and health institutions.
