ISLAMABAD, March 8: A complaint was lodged on Thursday against a member of President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s security staff at the Secretariat police station for misbehaving with girl students of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) on Women’s Day celebrations at the Convention Centre.

Officials at the police station, when contacted, said Jehangir Abbasi, brother of one of the girls, lodged a complaint against Mr Pervez, a police official. The complainant alleged that the accused took mobile telephones from the girls as they were entering the Convention Centre; used their telephone cards; and misbehaved with them.

When the function ended, the girls looked for Mr Pervez and managed to locate him after two hours of search.

The complainant told Dawn that at first the policeman did not accept that he had taken the telephone sets, but after insistence and intervention of other police officials on duty, he returned the same.

To a question if the complainant had lodged a complaint about use of the mobile telephone cards, ASI Ibrar of the Secretariat police station replied in affirmative. The complainant said the cards of two mobile telephones were exhausted during the time they were in the custody of the said police official.

He said the officials at the Secretariat police station were reluctant to register an FIR against their colleague.

The girl students of the QAU demanded of President Musharraf to order for initiation of an inquiry into the misbehaviour of his security staff with the students. “If the guarantors of peace and security turn on the citizens, who will ensure safety of citizens”, the students said.

In an earlier incident, the president’s security staff had deprived the guests of their foreign-brand cigarettes at the Comsats function.
