ISLAMABAD, July 17: Judicial Magistrate Abid Rizwan Abid on Tuesday sent the former minister of state for communications, Mohammad Shahid Jamil Qureshi, to the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on 14-day judicial remand.

The Shalimar Police produced the former minister before the court to seek his physical remand for six more days, but Mr Abid declined the request.

The judge observed that further physical remand of the accused was not justified as he had already been given in police custody three times for a period of four days each.

Earlier, Mustafa Qayyum, the brother of Kafila Siddiqui who died in mysterious circumstances, supported the police request for giving Mr Qureshi in police custody.

Meanwhile, the counsel for the accused told the judge that the police had failed to produce the challan of the case within required time.

The counsel said according to section 179 of the CrPC, the police were bound to submit the challan within 14 days of the case registration.
