DADU, July 17: The Main Nara Valley (MNV) drain on Tuesday developed another 100-foot breach near Johi inundating more than 10 villages and hundreds of acres of land. The breach could not be plugged till the filing of this report.

MPA Dr Sajeela Leghari told journalists that water would enter Johi town if its level increased. People were, nevertheless, seen shifting their families to safer places.

Water in the MNV drain maintained pressure on the embankment of Johi branch and floodwater from Balochistan continued mounting pressure on the western part of flood protective embankment.

The in-charge of Dadu irrigation cell, Ail Babu, said that pressure of floodwater would remain for another two days. Level of Manchhar Lake had reached 112.9RL and the irrigation officials were draining out 6,500 cusec a day into the Indus River, he said.

District Nazim Kareem Ali Jatoi, DCO Aijaz Ahmed Jatoi and army team leader Col. Ehsan Ahmed who visited flood affected areas in Johi and Khairpur Nathan Shah talukas said that relief goods were being distributed among people.

But their claim was rejected by a number of flood victims who staged a demonstration in Ghozo in protest against unfair distribution of relief goods. They charged that relief packets were being given to influential people only.

DG HEALTH: The director general of Health Services, Dr Hadi Bux Jatoi, said on Tuesday that the situation would become alarming after floodwater receded as it would leave stench in its wake.
