CHELMSFORD (England), July 16: Dinesh Karthik warmed up for the first Test at Lord’s with 51 against England Lions on the final day of India’s tour match on Sunday. The three-day fixture, India’s last match before the opening Test of a three-match series gets underway on Thursday, unsurprisingly ended in a draw.

India’s first innings did not conclude until Sunday morning and they conceded a 30-run lead as uncapped pace bowler Stuart Broad celebrated his call-up to England’s Test squad with a spell of three wickets for 10 runs in seven balls on his way to a career-best return of five for 76.

Lions’ captain and England opener Andrew Strauss then put a poor run of form behind him with 80 in his side’s second innings 227 for two declared.

Karthik then made a well-constructed fifty before he fell to leg-spinner Adil Rashid as India finished on 91-1.

In India’s first innings (383), which featured Sachin Tendulkar’s 171, Mahendra Dhoni scored 76 off 84 balls.

Summarised scores:

ENGLAND LIONS 413-8 declared (T.T. Bresnan 126 not out, J. Denly 83, S.C.J Broad 50; Zaheer Khan 3-119) and 227-2 declared (A.J. Strauss 80, O.A. Shah 77 not out); INDIA 383 (S.R. Tendulkar 171, M.S. Dhoni 76, Yuvraj Singh 59; S.C.J. Broad 5-76, G. Onions 3-90) and 91-1 (K.D. Karthik 51).—AFP
