TOBA TEK SINGH, July 16: About 100,000 textbooks sent by the provincial government for distribution among students of government schools free of cost under the Chief Minister’s “Parha Likha Punjab Programme” are feared to be destroyed due to the rainy season.

Reports said that on the request of local education department officials, high-ups sent some money to purchase polythene sheets to save the stock.

A source discloses that about 300,000 textbooks are required for students of different classes during the current year’s academic session, but the government has so far supplied only 100,000 books.

ARRESTED: Jhang police claimed on Monday to have arrested the dacoits who had killed a mill owner and his friend in a bus on Gojra-Toba Road some two months ago.

LAWYERS: District bar association members boycotted courts on Monday for one hour to show solidarity with Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

SCHOLARSHIP: District Baitul Maal Committee chairman Tariq Mahmood says scholarships will be given on merit to the students of government educational institutions.

He said six deserving girls would be given money for dowry.
