KARACHI, July 16: Former Keamari Town nazim Zulfiqar Yunus was beaten up by attackers who barged into his house in the early hours of Monday and warned him to withdraw his court case against the incumbent town nazim, Mr Yunus’s family claimed.

Haji Mohammad Yunus, father of the former town nazim, told Dawn that five men barged into his house at around 4.15am and started thrashing Zulfiqar and his wife. “They didn’t come for money. The purpose of their visit was to press Zulfiqar for withdrawal of his case against Keamari Town Nazim Humayun Khan,” he alleged.

Keamari Town Police Officer SP Javed Ali Meher said that five men had roughed up Mr Yunus before fleeing. An FIR against unidentified persons had been registered by the Docks police, the TPO said.
