ISLAMABAD, July 13: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources is studying the possibilities of producing electricity from Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LGP) for domestic use to mitigate the sufferings of people during long duration power outages.

Petroleum Minister Amanullah Khan Jadoon presiding over a meeting here on Friday directed the Director General (Gas) to hold meetings with the LGP marketing companies and domestic consumers for ascertaining their comments and suggestions for expeditious compiling a comprehensive report in this regard.

The minister said that the government had also allowed the oil marketing companies (OMC) to set up LGP dispensing stations at their retail outlets for refuelling auto vehicles under the relevant laws and rules.

He said that the government was taking concrete steps for exploiting the untapped hydrocarbon and coal resources in order to meet the growing energy needs.

Director General Gas Saeedullah Shah told the meeting that in view of the prevailing electricity crisis across the country, particularly in Karachi, a study was being conducted for installation of electricity generators at domestic level by using available sources of energy in economical manner.

Advisor to Prime Minister on Energy Mukhtar Ahmad, Secretary Petroleum Ahmad Waqar and Additional Secretary Shaukat Hayat Durrani attended the meeting.
