ISLAMABAD, Oct 6: Judge Sakhi Hussain Bokhari of the Accountability Court No III on Saturday extended remand of former Pakistan Medical and Dental Council secretary, Syed Ahteram Ali Shah, till October 16.

The accused was arrested recently and remanded to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on charges of Rs30 million embezzlement, that he allegedly committed in government department from 1968 to March 2001.

According to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) the accused destroyed the PMDC’s official record, which could help unveil the embezzlement of the department’s funds.

According to the prosecution, the accused had managed to acquire two houses in sector F-10, by misusing the official funds. He got a Honda Accord registered in his name, in violation of rules. The vehicle was allegedly purchased through the official funds.

Mr Shah also purchased different saving certificates worth Rs20 million, which he later encashed.
