KARACHI, July 10: The transport and communication department of the City District Government of Karachi has invited tenders for setting up CNG stations in various localities of the metropolis as the CDGK plans to bring 8,000 big CNG buses in Karachi to provide transport facilities to citizens.

The new buses will run under a phase-wise schedule. In this connection, the city government has signed a MoU with a Holland-based company.

Meanwhile, the transport and communication department of the CDGK is working out strategies to facilitate the private sector for operating big CNG buses on urban routes while efforts are also under way to establish modern bus terminals designed by the city government in collaboration with key players in the CNG industry to provide filling facilities for CNG buses. The government has also invited suggestions for setting up CNG stations besides their operation management and maintenance at already established terminals for CNG buses in sector 5D and 7A Surjani Town.

The transport department has also prepared a report that includes RFP proposals to be issued as guidance for companies and potential bidders showing interest in CNG stations.

The whole exercise is aimed at creating a proper environment for setting up quality CNG stations for new CNG buses in the private sector. — PPI
