Karachi players in lead

HYDERABAD, July 8: Karachi's Imtiaz Ahmed consolidated his position by winning the eighth round, equalling his points with team-mates Asif Abbasi and Riyasat Ali in the 27th Sindh Chess Championship at the Sindh Sports Board hostel on Sunday.

He obtained 6.5 points at the close of eighth round while NM Aziz Farooqui is trailing at 6 points.

Karachi's Asif Abbasi and Riyasat Ali also obtained 6.5 points to consolidate their position.

Karachi's three NMs, namely Asad Rampuri, Mohammad Younus and Haseeb Ahmed have five points apiece.

The contests remained undecided between NMs Mohammad Younus and Aziz Farooqui, NMs Salman Farooqui and Haseeb Ahmed, Riyasat Ali Nazim and NM Asad Rampuri, Kamran Hafeez and Qaiser Nizamani.

Matches between Imtiaz Ahmed and Asad Rampuri, NMs Mohammad Younus and Haseeb Ahmed, Qaiser Nizamani and Jehangir Ahmed remained undecided.

Ninth round will be held on Monday.
