NEW YORK, July 8: The stand-off at the Lal Masjid in Islamabad is just one part of the far larger challenge facing President Gen Pervez Musharraf, The New York Times said on Sunday.
“The immediate problem for the general remains how to end the siege with minimum loss of life, and how to contain any backlash, particularly in the event of a bloody denouement,” the newspaper said in an article.
It observed that the government had done its best to avoid a bloody end and appeared to be winning the high ground.
