FAISALABAD, July 7: Streets around the Factory Area police station are known mud-splattered areas because of choked sewerage lines. This correspondent visited the area and found foul-emitting sewage had made the whole locality a hell and caused breakouts of skin and eye diseases there.

District Nazim Rana Zahid Tauseef visited the area three months ago to see sewage plights by himself but his visit did not bring about any change in the area. Pools of stagnant water provide a breeding place for mosquitoes.

The upcoming monsoon will bring more misery to the area if the sewerage lines are not fixed.

A local, Latif, said scores of applications were moved to different quarters seeking fixing of rusty and broken sewerage, but no action was taken.

Most of the locals did not like to visit the police station, as first they had to cross a river of sewage, he said.

Police officials also face numerous problems because of stinking atmosphere.

An official said it would take long time for them to respond any emergency call as muddy roads did not let them move swiftly.

The district nazim said a sewer line was being laid down in the area. Tenders of the project have been opened and works would be started soon. The project would be completed in three months, he added.
