MIRPURKHAS, July 7: The District Relief Committee Mirpurkhas has urged the federal government to write off agriculture loans of up to Rs100,000 of those abadgars who were affected by last year’s rains.

The meeting was held on Saturday and presided over by the Committee’s chairman and Provincial Minister Shabbir Ahmed Kaimkhani. It was attended by the district Nazim Dr Sughra Junejo, Naib Nazim Zafar Ahmed Kamali, DCO Mumtaz Ali Shah, Taluka Nazim Mirpurkhas Ghulam Dastagir Khan and revenue officers.

The committee reviewed the loss of lives and properties which occurred due to heavy rains last year, survey report of losses, recent rain and precautionary measures taken by the district government. The minister said the report of losses prepared by revenue officers will be reviewed at a meeting of taluka Nazims and all efforts would be made to provide help to deserving people.

District Nazim Dr Sughra Junejo told the meeting as people sustained heavy losses, hence they needed help.

The meeting demanded of the government to provide Rs700 million as relief grant for distribution among the affectees in the district. The meeting was informed that desilting of main drain of LBOD had been completed and desilting of sub drains of LBOD would be made this year.
