Powerloom workers’ demo

KASUR, July 6: Powerloom workers staged a protest demonstration outside the Kasur Press Club on Ferozepur Road on Friday, demanding an increase in their salaries. Over 150 powerloom workers, led by Zulfiqar Ahmed, held the demonstration to press millers to accept their demands. Amid anti-government and anti-capitalism chants, the protesters demanded that the government push the millers accept their demands.

Speakers said government’s anti-labourer policies had knocked workers’ back dearly while low wages had added fuel to their miseries. They said they were deprived of social security benefits and health facilities. They called upon the Labour Department to issue them social security cards immediately.

KILLED: Two people were killed in a road accident when the car they were travelling in hit a tractor trolley on Manga Mandi Road bypass on Friday.

Sheikh Munir Ahmed and Muhammad Khan were travelling in their car from Chunian to Lahore. When they reached near Manga Mandi bypass, their car hit the tractor trolley parked in the middle of the road, leaving both occupants dead instantly.
