TOBA TEK SINGH, July 6: An alleged proclaimed offender managed to escape from police custody in Kamalia tehsil courts on Friday afternoon. Police said Azhar alias Mazhari Chandiana, wanted in dozens of cases of murders, dacoities and kidnap for ransom, was brought from jail on a wagon to attend court proceedings. On way he somehow freed himself from a constable and fled away along with chains.

He has not yet been arrested.

Meanwhile, Kamalia city police registered a case against 11 policemen on the charge of showing negligence which helped an alleged proclaimed offender escape.

They include, Sub-Inspector Ayub and constables Ashiq, Nadim, Hanif, Zulfiqar, Dilbar, Shahbaz, Ikram, Nasir, Usman and Yahya.

The DPO has also issued their suspension orders and constituted teams for the arrest of the absconder. — Correspondent
