BEIJING, MARCH 6: Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan on Wednesday called for Pakistan-India dialogue for peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

Addressing a news conference here at the Great Hall of the Peoples, he said China realized the need for promoting peace and stability in South Asia.

He said China would continue to encourage and persuade Pakistan and India to resolve their disputes, including the issue of Kashmir, through peaceful means. Answering a question, he said China was prepared to play its constructive role for bringing peace and stability in the region. He said his country was engaged in promoting good-neighbourly relations with both Pakistan and India.

About Sino-US relations, Tang Jiaxuan said China and the United States should seek common ground and shelve differences in building up their relations. “This is of vital importance to world peace and security,” he added.

Tang said the planned visits to the United States by Chinese president Jiang Zemin and vice-president Hu Jintao this year will offer an opportunity for further improving and developing Sino-US relations. However, Tang Jiaxuan said that Taiwan still remained the most important and sensitive core issue in Sino-US relations.—APP
