LARKANA, March 6: The Sindh government abolished all kutcha wheat procurement centres throughout the province on Wednesday.
Now the procurement would only be made at government go-downs and permanent procurement centres set up in each district of the province.
The district food controller, Larkana, said that gunny bags only issued by the in charge of the centres in Larkana District could be acceptable at wheat procurement centres.
He said that wheat could be purchased at government centres at the support price of Rs300 per 40 kg.
He said that those growers who wanted to purchase wheat could register themselves at the district food controller office by March 15.
The district food controller has asked each centre in charge to be in touch with the growers so as to streamline the procurement policy.
He said for the current year a target of procuring 10,500 metric tons of wheat from Larkana had been fixed.
DEMOTED: The district investigation police officer (DIPO), Abdul Ahad Sangri, on Wednesday demoted an inspector and a head constable on the charges of keeping villagers in illegal confinement.
Both A. Dino Sangi and Ansar Ali Mithani were suspended.
Mr Sangri said slackness on the part of any investigation officer would not be tolerated.
KIDNAPPED: A gang of ten dacoits kidnapped a man, Abdullah Khokhar, and injured another in the Faqeer Khokhar village, about 25 kms from here, on late Tuesday night.
The injured villager, Mottan Bhatti, was admitted to the CMC Hospital.
SKIN DISEASE: Local health office has received a donation of 2,300 injections to be used against a skin disease, leishmaniasis, that has massively erupted in Larkana and Dadu district.
Dr Farooqur Rehman Soomro, the leader of the World Health Organization team that lately surveyed the outbreak of the disease in Larkana and Dadu districts, told this correspondent that a multi-national oil exploring company, Lasmo, has extended this donation to the district health office.
He said he would visit different taluka hospitals to distribute the medicine.
To a question he said the skin disease had reached Larkana City where they had found several positive cases of lieshmaniasis.
Dr Soomro said that measures on war footing are needed to control further spread of the disease.
When asked about the arrival of medicines from the WHO and other international donor agencies, he hoped the medicines would arrive soon as the emergency medical officer of the WHO, Dr Quaid, had assured him of sending anti-leishmaniasis medicines.
Council formed: The District Advisory Council (DAC) was formed here to put proposals and suggestions to the district government regarding development projects and running the day-to-day affairs of the government.
Zila Nazim Khursheed Junejo chaired its first meeting the other day.
