LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), July 2: Oil supply to the Nato-led forces in Afghanistan resumed on Monday after a local transport union and the oil contractors agreed to resolve differences through a jirga.

Representatives of the Al-Haaj group and the All-Khyber Transporters Union confirmed the oil supply’s resumption to Afghanistan after successful negotiations in Jamrud on Sunday.

The two parties had agreed to constitute a jirga, comprising six people from each side.

The jirga would discuss issues like increase in the drivers’ charges and insurance and compensation for vehicles damaged in terrorist incidents.

Jirga members announced the unconditional resumption of their activities after a three-week strike.

After the announcement, hundreds of oil tankers resumed their journey to the Bagram air base in Afghanistan on Monday. Long queues of oil tankers could be seen at the Torkham border, awaiting customs clearance.
