KARACHI, July 1: Exhibiting great fighting skills, defending champion and top seed Tahir Gul beat third seed Gul Hameed in three agonising sets to power his way into 45-plus singles final of the third national seniors’ tennis championship.

The event was resumed at the Karachi Club on Sunday after Saturday’s schedule was hit by rain.

Tahir, a tennis coach at a local five star hotel, took two hours to emerge 6-3, 6-7, 7-5 victorious.

He has already stormed in the 35 plus singles final where he is drawn to face Rizwan Shamsi. The final has been deferred as the latter has left abroad on a private trip.

45 plus singles (first semi-final):

Tahir Gul bt Gul Hameed 6-3, 6-7, 7-5.

35 plus singles (second round):

Shariq Vohra w/o Zulfiqar Hakeem.

(Second semi-final):

Tahir Gul bt Shariq Vohra 6-1 (retd).

35 plus doubles (first round):

Mohammad Iltifat/Javed bt Akhter Aliman/Hanif 6-2, 6-3.

45 plus doubles (first round):

Zahid Hussain/Akbar Hayat Khan bt Tariq Aziz/Hanif Habib 6-1, 6-2.
