Two-day rain hits 100 dwellings

KHANEWAL, July 1: Rain during the last two days has affected life in the district.

The worst-affected is village 34/10-R, 25km from the district headquarters, where nearly 100 dwellings have been damaged.

Reports reaching here suggest that 700 people have been marooned who are now facing food shortage

The Tehsil Muncipal Administration has also sent some machines to drain out the storm water.

HUNT: US Consulate principal officer in Lahore Brian Hunt visited Khanewal on Sunday and had a meeting with local officials of the PPP.

Quoting him, district PPP president Javaid Hashmi said the US government wanted to see democracy in Pakistan.

Hunt also held a meeting with District Nazim Sardar Ahmad Yar Hiraj at his residence and reportedly discussed various development programmes funded by the USAID in Khanewal, including Pakistan Initiative for Mother and Newborn (PAIMAN) and District That Work (DTW) in association with the District government and local NGOs.
