KARACHI, June 30: A local FM radio has stopped hourly news bulletins syndicated by the BBC Pakistan after the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) ordered its management to immediately stop the broadcast of “all sorts of BBC content/programmes”.

Pemra in a letter to the FM 103 management said: “You are hereby directed to immediately stop the broadcast of all sorts of BBC content/programmes failing which Pemra shall be constrained to take appropriate legal action against you.”

The letter issued on Friday asked the FM radio management that they were specifically informed through a letter on June 21 that their application was still in process and a decision was yet to be taken on it.

Therefore, the management should not start the broadcast of BBC programmes until a formal decision was communicated to the radio by Pemra.
